Ferrari has just unveiled the brand's new Ferrari 296 Customer Racing
Edition.
Set to debut in the European and North American series in the 2024 season,
the 296 Challenge introduces a host of new features over the Ferrari 488
Challenge Evo and, in some respects, is a revolutionary design.
The new 296 Challenge is the embodiment of an innovative new philosophy in
which extensive work has been carried out on the road car to optimise its
specification for track use. In terms of both performance and consistency per
lap over the course of a race, the 296 Challenge rewrites the parameters of the
Prancing Horse's single-make series, offering solutions that closely mirror the
specifications of the 296 GT3, which debuted this season.
Derived from the 296 GTB, the 296 Challenge introduces substantial
modifications on the power unit, aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics fronts, all
aimed at ensuring maximum performance on the track. It is the first car in the
history of the championship to mount a 120-degree V6: the new model mounts the
2992 cc twin-turbo engine without the hybrid component, a choice that was also
made for the 296 GT3. The engine unleashes 700 hp with a maximum torque of 740
Nm, which means that the 296 Challenge sets a new power record for the segment
with 234 hp/litre.
We will soon be able to see it on the best racetracks.
